Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025

11/2 A driver reported their vehicle left the roadway on Barstad Road in the Town of Viroqua and struck a telephone pole. A deputy arrived and noted a power line was down. The driver was taken into custody for Operating While Under the Influence and was found in possession of marijuana. He reported no injuries and was transported to the Vernon County Detention Center. Viroqua Fire Department and Vernon Electric also assisted at the scene.

11/3 A deputy stopped to assist a motorist on US Highway 14 near State Highway 162 in the Town of Hamburg with changing a flat tire.

11/3 Deputies responded to a residence on Dousman Drive in the Village of De Soto for a domestic disturbance. A male party was detained and then transported to the Vernon County Detention Center. De Soto First Responders and Tri-State Ambulance assisted at the scene.

11/4 Dispatch received a complaint of two vehicle racing on US Highway 14 near County Road Y in the Town of Viroqua. A sheriff’s deputy and officers from Viroqua Police Department located and stopped the vehicles on the south end of Viroqua. Citations were issued.

11/5 A deputy was requested to conduct a welfare check at a residence in the Town of Bergen.

11/5 A citizen called to report a wounded buck in the ditch on US Highway 14 in the Town of Coon. A deputy was sent to dispatch the buck.

11/6 Dispatch was notified that debris from a car, as well as a license plate, was found in a field near a sharp corner on County Road Y in the Town of Viroqua. The registered owner of the plate was arrested for Operating While Under the Influence – 5th or 6th Offense just days before.

11/7 Dispatch received multiple calls regarding a male walking in and out of traffic and yelling at motorists along State Highway 35 near the Village of Stoddard. A deputy

responded and the male appeared fine during their contact. A short while later dispatch received more calls. The deputy followed the male until he was safe and well off the road.

11/7 Multiple mailboxes were reported being struck along County Road N in the Town of Sterling. It appeared a heavy piece of equipment may have gone by and caused the damage. A deputy was able to find and make contact with the party responsible; they were aware of the damage caused and will be replacing the mailboxes.
