VIROQUA, Wis. — McIntosh Memorial Library is proud to partner with Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin through a grant that supports healthy, nutritious snack options for children and families during library programs.
This funding helps ensure that all participants—especially youth—have access to wholesome food while engaging in educational and enrichment activities. Snacks are offered during a wide range of programs, from early childhood story times and after-school events to teen clubs and summer reading activities.
“We believe learning and nourishment go hand in hand,” said Emilia Jury, Youth Services Director at McIntosh Memorial Library. “Thanks to the generosity of Second Harvest, we’re able to provide not just educational opportunities, but also healthy food that supports the well-being of every child who walks through our doors.”
The library’s collaboration with Second Harvest reflects a shared commitment to fighting food insecurity, promoting equity, and fostering healthy habits in the Viroqua community. This partnership is especially impactful during high-attendance youth programs, where consistent access to nutritious snacks makes a meaningful difference.
This ongoing partnership is deeply aligned with Second Harvest’s mission: to end hunger in southwestern Wisconsin. Their vision—that everyone in our community has enough nutritious food to thrive—is fully embodied in this collaboration. The Foodbank’s core values of Inclusion, Equity, Innovation, Humility, Trust, and Integrity are reflected in the way they support community partners like McIntosh Memorial Library.
The library serves as a special ongoing outreach site made possible entirely through the strength and shared purpose of this partnership. This collaboration is more than a grant—it’s a mutual commitment to creating healthier, more equitable communities through access, dignity, and care.
McIntosh Memorial Library remains dedicated to providing inclusive, accessible programming for all. By combining literacy and learning with health-conscious support, the library continues to serve as a community cornerstone for youth and families.
