Chicken coop destroyed, home damaged by fire in rural De Soto

DE SOTO, Wis. – The Genoa-Harmony Fire Department is reporting a chicken coop was destroyed and a mobile home was damaged in an early morning fire in rural De Soto. The fire department reports they were dispatched by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center at 6:30 this morning to the E1000 block of South Bad Axe Rd, DeSoto, in the Genoa township.

A mutual aid request was made for assistance from the Wheatland Fire Department for an extra tender/tanker while en-route to the fire. On arrival, our first crew found the structure with heavy fire showing and the chicken coop was directly next to the home. The chicken coop is a total loss and there was also minimal damage to the house from the heat of the fire melting some siding.

There were no injuries to any firefighting personnel, however, the homeowner was treated by Genoa EMS for a burn but refused transport. GHFR responded with 8 personnel. The Genoa-Harmony Fire Department expressed their gratitude for the assistance from the Wheatland Fire Department for their quick response as well as the town of Genoa road patrolmen for the extra sand/salt at the scene.
