Center Avenue project in Viroqua enters next phase with asphalt removal between Terhune and South Street

Sept. 27, 2025

VIROQUA, Wis. – Crews will begin asphalt removal on Center Avenue between Terhune and South Street as early as Monday, marking the start of full reconstruction work in the South Center corridor. The project includes replacement of water, sewer, and storm sewer infrastructure, along with road and sidewalk reconstruction and installation of a multi-use path.

Vehicle traffic will be prohibited on this stretch for at least two weeks, with duration dependent on weather and construction progress. Alternate routes include Main, South and Rusk streets. Pedestrian access will remain open but may involve uneven terrain and will not meet ADA standards.

The scope of the Center Ave project that will be completed something next year

Driveway access for properties along Center Avenue will be restricted for approximately two weeks during underground utility work, and again for more than a week during curb and driveway concrete pours. Restoration of sidewalks and asphalt is expected before the end of the paving season in November.

Meanwhile, Badger Environmental is completing storm sewer installation between Decker and Parkinson. Sidewalk removal in this area is scheduled for today or tomorrow, making pedestrian passage difficult. Road base construction and prep work for the multi-use path and sidewalk will follow.
