Oct. 29, 2025
The Coon Creek Community Watershed Council (CCCWC) invites you to learn about fall prairie establishment, planning for prescribed fire, and participating in the state’s managed forest law program at our first winter meeting of the 2025-2026 season. The Nov. 5 meeting will be held at the Coon Valley Conservation Club (S1005 Knudson Ln, Coon Valley). Dinner will start at 6:00, and the meeting will follow at 6:30.
The evening will feature Kristina Weld, training specialist with the Wisconsin Prescribed Fire Council, as well as members of the Southwest Wisconsin Chapter of the Prairie Enthusiasts. They will speak about the history and importance of fire in our region, discuss resources and training opportunities for those interested in integrating fire onto their landscapes, go over tips for fall prairie establishment, and share stories from the ongoing burn season.
Specialists from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WI-DNR) Managed Forest Law Program will also be in attendance to speak about their program, and answer questions about enrollment requirements and forest conservation practices in our steep landscape.
The CCCWC is particularly excited to be sharing free native prairie and wildflower seed samples at the meeting, while supplies last. If you are interested in planting prairie at a larger scale, the CCCWC has cost share funding available to support your project. Join us at the meeting to learn more about getting started with the CCCWC’s cost share options.
Bring your stories to share from the fall prescribed burn season, your experiences with the managed forest law program, and your questions about either. And help the CCCWC reduce waste by packing your own picnicware.
The mission of the Coon Creek Community Watershed Council is to continue the historic legacy of conservation leadership through improving and restoring our soil, water, and air as stewards of the Creek Watershed. We focus on strategies and practices that individuals can implement, and are working to increase awareness of, access to, and adoption of practices that advance flood resilience and community well-being in the Coon Creek Watershed.
