Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday, May 17, 2025

5/13 Deputies responded to State Highway 35 in the Town of Bergen for a car versus deer collision. The vehicle driven by Levi Leffler, Ferryville, received disabling damage and was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.

5/13 Deputies responded to State Highway 35 in the Village of Genoa for a car versus deer collision. A Ford Explorer driven by Harpreet Toor of Muscoda, WI received disabling damage and was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.

5/13 A deputy responded to a business in the Village of Readstown for a report of theft. A car mounted spotting scope was taken from a vendor booth. The investigation is ongoing.

5/14 Dispatch was notified of a tractor rollover on County Road XX in the Town of Jefferson. An issue with a belt caused the loss of control. The driver of the tractor, Donna Laughlin of Viroqua, WI was able to extricate herself and no injuries were reported. The road was closed temporarily while the tractor was towed from the scene.

5/14 A towing company notified dispatch of a vehicle that collided with a bridge near State Highways 33 and 82 in the Town of Hillsboro. No road blockage or injuries were reported.

5/14 A deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration. During the stop the odor of intoxicants was detected and the driver was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated – 5th or 6th Offense, Operating While Revoked, Ignition Interlock Device Tampering, and Felony Bail Jumping. The driver was transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

5/15 Approximately thirty people attended NAMI New Hampshire Postvention (a response to suicide) Training at the Sheriff’s Office. In collaboration with Crawford, Grant, and Vernon Counties, a grant was secured to fund the training.

5/16 A sheriff’s deputy and officers from Viroqua Police Department responded to a business in the City of Viroqua for a hit and run of a parked vehicle. The driver of the striking

vehicle was later found at their residence and arrested for Operating While Intoxicated and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

5/16 A deputy responded to a call for six horses running in the road on State Highway 82 in the Town of Hillsboro. The owners were located, and the horses were returned to their enclosure.

5/17 Sheriff’s deputies and an officer with Westby Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Douglas Street in the City of Westby.
