Vernon County Sheriff’s Department Report for the week ending Saturday, March 29

3/23 While on patrol, a deputy initiated a traffic stop on State Highway 131 just outside of La Farge heading towards Viola on a truck with a loud exhaust that was weaving within their lane. The deputy determined the driver was operating while impaired. The driver was taken into custody and arrested for Operating While Under the Influence – 2nd offense.

3/24 A deputy noticed a vehicle operating suspiciously. After attempting to elude the deputy, the suspect vehicle was eventually found on private property on County Road T in the Town of Viroqua. Two occupants were found in the vehicle, and the driver, with active child support warrants in Green County, had fled the scene. Open intoxicants were seen inside the vehicle. The passengers received citations for possessing open intoxicants. The deputy has been unable to make contact with the driver. The case will be referred to the Vernon County District Attorney.

3/27 A deputy initiated a traffic stop on westbound US Highway 14 on the Coon Valley hill for a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed overtaking other vehicles on the incline. Radar indicated the driver was operating 96MPH in a 55MPH zone. The driver was cited for traveling 41MPH over the posted limit.

3/27 A traffic stop was initiated on State Highway 56 in the Town of Harmony for a vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. Radar indicated the driver was operating 89MPH in a 55MPH zone. The driver was cited for traveling 33MPH over the posted limit.

3/28 Dispatch received a report of battery at a bar on North 4th Street in Readstown. Two males were fighting. One of the males also pushed a bar employee and left the scene. With the assistance of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the male was later located in Soldiers Grove and taken into custody. He was transported to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center for disorderly conduct and battery.

3/29 Dispatch received an automated crash notification near County Road N in the Town of Sterling. Contact was made with two occupants who reported braking hard to avoid a collision with a friend’s truck that had stopped in the roadway in front of them. They were unable to avoid the collision, and their truck rolled onto its side after striking the friend’s

truck. The friend left the scene and when deputies went to speak with them, there was indication that they had been operating under the influence at the time of the collision. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Vernon County Detention Center. The incident is pending further investigation.
