PORTLAND, Wis. – According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office two people were seriously injured after a single motorcycle crash on Friday, July 14. According to a sheriff’s report at around 12:37 p.m. the Monroe County 911 Communications Center received a 911 call regarding a single motorcycle crash on State Highway 33 near Ocelot Road in the Portland Township.
According to the sheriff’s report the operator and rider were part of a group traveling west on State Highway 33 when they entered a curve and then lost control due to gravel on the roadway. The motorcycle left the roadway, entered the north ditch, and traveled approximately seventy feet before overturning and ejecting the rider and passenger.
The report goes on to say the operator of the motorcycle, Ted Gould of Iowa, sustained severe injuries to his head. The passenger, Tammy Gould also of Iowa, also sustained severe injuries to her head and back. Neither rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Both were treated on the scene by Tri-State Ambulance.
Due to the nature of the crash and the injuries, law enforcement requested Gundersen Air immediately, and Gundersen Air transported Tammy Gould to a hospital in La Crosse. Ted Gould was also transported by Tri-State Ambulance to a hospital in La Crosse.
Highway 33 was closed in both directions to allow Gundersen Air a safe landing zone. The closure lasted approximately twenty minutes.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Monroe County 911 Communications Center, Cashton First Responders, Cashton Fire Department, Tri-State Ambulance, Gundersen Air, and Rush Hour Towin.
