April 12, 2025

SPARTA, Wis. – In a social media post the Sparta Police Department said they hosted their second annual Women Exploring Careers in Law Enforcement event last Saturday.

The department said young women in high school and college who are interested in a criminal justice career had the opportunity to learn from female law enforcement officers from area agencies. Participants came from area partnering agencies including the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office, the UW – La Crosse Police Department, the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, Campbell Police Department, Wisconsin DNR, and the La Crosse Police Department.

Participants learned about specialized vehicles and equipment, watched a K9 demonstration, learned how to conduct a traffic stop, performed defensive action and ground fighting techniques, participated in live scenario training and processed a mock crime scene. It was a full day!
