COON VALLEY, Wis. – Coon Valley Police Chief Philip Welch reports 40-year-old Matthew Semke of Coon Valley was arrested and faces numerous charges following a traffic stop in Coon Valley earlier this week.
According to Chief Welch he conducted a traffic stop on Semke on Tuesday, April 8 at about 4:20 p.m. and states that Semke driving under a revoked driver license. Welch goes on to say during contact with the driver, and a subsequent investigation, probable cause was established to show that Mr. Semke was operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration. It was also established that Mr. Semke was violating a court order to use an ignition interlock device. As a result, Mr. Semke was arrested and booked at the Vernon County Detention Center.
Charges referred to the Vernon County District Attorney’s Office include: misdemeanor third offense OWI, misdemeanor operating while revoked, misdemeanor failure to install I.I.D., and felony bail jumping, along with two traffic citations, including possessing open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. These are the alleged offenses and Mr. Semke is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
According to Welch, on April 9 Mr. Semke was released from custody on a $1,000 signature bond and is awaiting an initial appearance on May 6.
The incident remains under investigation by the Coon Valley Police Department.
