National Weather Service confirms two tornadoes touched down in La Crosse County

June 30, 2025

The National Weather Service confirmed a June 25 storm that swept through our area produced seven tornadoes and two of them touched down in La Crosse County.

According to the Weather Service an EF1 tornado touched down Southeast of Barre Mills just before midnight on June 25. It was about 130 years wide and traveled 4.4 miles.

Summary: This tornado developed near State Highway 33 several miles south of Barre Mills, causing extensive tree damage to the Valleywood Springs area before moving northeast, causing additional spotty tree damage before dissipating near the intersection of County Highways M and I. Valleywood Springs would be affected by a second tornado around 10 minutes later. Each tornado had a distinct circulation and debris signature on radar.

The Weather Service says another EF0 tornado developed in the same area in almost the same spot a few minutes later and traveled about 1.1 miles.

Summary: This short lived tornado developed east of La Crosse and affected the Valleywood Springs neighborhood causing damage to trees as it moved east. Valleywood Springs had already been affected by a tornado around 10 minutes earlier. Each tornado had a distinct circulation and debris signature on radar.
