Memorial placed at Viroqua Schools to honor long-time Viroqua teacher and coach John Van Cleave

VIROQUA, Wis. – Family, friends and co-workers gathered at the Viroqua Elementary School gymnasium this week to honor long-time physical education teacher and coach John Van Cleave who passed away in 2023.

Viroqua Area Schools staff gathered to view the John Van Cleave memorial shadow box that has been placed at the entrance of the elementary gym. The memorial honors Van Cleave who taught Physical Education for 27 years before passing away following a battle with pancreatic cancer. 

Mrs. Tia Van Cleave also presented the first annual JVC Memorial Scholarship at the VHS Honor’s Program on Wednesday.
