Gundersen St. Joseph’s, local schools and Vernon County Sheriff’s Office partner for child grooming and sextortion presentation

HILLSBORO, Wis. – The issue of online child grooming and sextortion is growing and has recently made the headlines in Wisconsin when a teen died by suicide after becoming the victim of online sextortion.

Gundersen St. Joseph’s has partnered with local school districts and the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office to host a free community presentation on this topic to help support our local families and children. The presentation will take place in the Hillsboro High School Gym on Wednesday, April 16, 6 – 7:30 p.m.

The presentation will be a panel discussion featuring Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson, Mental Health Specialists Christine Dean, LCSW, and Melinda Wickland, LCSW, as well as John DeMay, who will share his own heartbreaking story about his son, Jordan DeMay.

To encourage even more participation in the event and to make sure that as many people see this presentation, St. Joes has pledged that a $10 gas cards will be provided to the first 200 attendees through the door. At the end of the evening, tickets will be drawn for five $100 gas cards.

Parental discretion is advised and no children under 11 years of age should watch the presentation. Instead, supervised activities for children 5-10yrs will be provided in the High School Library to allow parents and older children to attend the presentation.
Registration is not required but it will help the organizers plan for the event and for the supervised activities. Please register here
