The juvenile has been taken into custody in the city of La Crosse and will be referred to juvenile authorities. Again, this situation has been resolved. -Sheriff Roy Torgerson and Viola Police Chief Chad Kanable

    Previous post – Wednesday, July 10 – 8:50 a.m.

VIOLA, Wis. – A press release from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office states that they responded to reports of a series of burglaries in Viola late last night (July 9th)/early this morning(July 10th). According to the report three juveniles, whose identities are being withheld due to their age, are believed to have stolen a vehicle in the City of LaCrosse and subsequently broke into multiple cars, stealing various items from local Viola residents.

    Previous post – Wednesday, July 10 –

LIBERTY, Wis. – The Vernon County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Viola Police
Department and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement this morning advising residents in the Liberty and Viola areas to watch for a juvenile male subject who is wanted by law enforcement.

The most recent update from the authorities just before 9 a.m. states:

“We have actionable information indicating that the juvenile on the run is no longer in our area and have no reason to believe the community is in any danger. -Sheriff Roy Torgerson and Viola Police Chief Chad Kanable.“

Earlier reports stated the suspect was last seen near the intersection of St. Highway 56 and County S at Liberty. He is described as a white male approximately 5’8″tall, with a thin build (1OO-120 lbs.) wearing dark clothing. He has longer dark hair and blue eyes. Few other details about what prompted the search were released but authorities did say the juvenile is probably wet from running through a marshy area.

Initial reports stated that law enforcement was “unsure if this subject has a weapon”. A later update stated that the “The handgun in question has been located in the town of Liberty. The juvenile has not been located yet.”

Sheriff Roy Torgerson and Police Chet Chad Kanable strongly advise the public, if you see someone matching this description DO NOT make contact with the suspect. Instead, contact the Sheriff’s Dept immediately at 608-637-2123.

Another post on a Richland County Sheriff’s Office social media account states:

“Notice: In the early morning hours on 07/10/2024 several vehicles were entered illegally in the village of Viola. If you live in the Viola area please check your vehicles and property for signs of damage or theft. If you were a victim, please call the Richland County Sheriff’s Office and ask to be added to the list. An Officer will contact you as soon as possible.“

It is unclear if that matter is related to the search for the subject or not.
