Helgerson was elected President of the organization in October of 2024. Helgerson is the current Mayor for the City of Westby. He served on the city council for six years before being elected to Mayor in 2015.

During his tenure as mayor, Helgerson has overseen many large projects to the community including Main Street-State Highway 14 improvement project 2024, the construction of a new industrial business park and a visit from President Joe Biden as he announced a major investment in rural electricity in rural Wisconsin.

“Mayor Helgerson is the epitome of local government leadership in Wisconsin,” said League Executive Director, Jerry Deschane. “He’s always looking for the best outcomes. His common-sense, positive approach to problem-solving will continue to serve the League well.”

Helgerson has been an active member of the League including a member of the board of director for years. As a member of the League, Helgerson has also participated in programs provided by the National League of Cities (NLC).

Helgerson looks forward to his new role with the League.

“I am very proud to be able to represent both the City of Westby and the League of Wisconsin Municipalities at both the state and national level,” stated Helgerson.
