COON VALLEY, Wis. — Vernon County authorities are investigating an incident involving two vehicles that were stopped Sunday evening near Coon Valley, following a 911 call from a motorist traveling east on U.S. Highway 14 from La Crosse. Some posts have been shared about the incident on social media locally and Sheriff Torgerson released the information to clarify what is known about the incident at this point.
According to Sheriff Torgerson, the caller reported concerning behavior involving a black Jeep and a black Ford Explorer, prompting law enforcement to locate and stop both vehicles around 6 p.m. One vehicle was stopped by a Vernon County sheriff’s deputy, and the other by Coon Valley Police. Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their vehicles, were interviewed and released shortly after 7 p.m.
Sheriff Roy Torgerson said Tuesday that investigators have not found any connection between the two individuals. The investigation remains ongoing, including a review of the drivers’ backgrounds, and authorities are working in coordination with the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office.
“If the investigation uncovers any further information that would cause concerns in the community, I will be sure to keep you informed,” Torgerson said in a statement.
