Annual Vernon County Police Memorial Service scheduled for this week at the Sheriff’s Office

VERNON COUNTY, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson would like to invite the public to attend the Annual Vernon County Police Memorial Service, which will be held on Tuesday May 13, 2025 at 1:00 p.m., outdoors, in front of the Sheriff’s Office at 1320 Bad Axe Court, Viroqua.

This is an opportunity for law enforcement to remind the public of the sacrifices made daily by officers in protecting the lives and property of our citizens. Each year approximately 66,414, law enforcement officers are assaulted or injured in the line of duty, and in 2024, 165 officers were killed in the line of duty. One officer in Wisconsin, Wisconsin Department of Corrections Officer Corey Proulx died in the line of duty on June 25, 2024. So far in 2025, 23 officers have been killed in the line of duty.

Sheriff Roy Torgerson would like to remind everyone that throughout the nation, National Police Week will be observed May 12 thru May 18, 2025. With National Peace Officers Day observed on Thursday, May 15, 2025 in Washington D.C. The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony will be held at the Capital, in Madison on May 9, 2025.

Everyone is welcome to attend our Local Memorial Service at the Sheriff’s Office on May 13, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. In the event of rain, the service will be moved inside the Sheriff’s Office. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
