VIROQUA, Wis. — The Vernon County “Stuff the Bus” program is seeking community volunteers to help pack backpacks for local students ahead of the new school year. Packing events will be held on Thursday, July 17 and Friday, July 18 from 1:00 to 3:30 PM inside the Fellowship Hall at Bethel Home and Services, 614 S. Rock Avenue, Viroqua.
The goal of Stuff the Bus is simple yet powerful: to ensure that every student attending school in Vernon County—from Pre-K to High School—starts the year with the supplies they need to succeed. Volunteers will help sort and fill donated supplies into backpacks for distribution to eligible families throughout the county.
“This program truly relies on the generosity and spirit of our community,” said organizer Maggie Strittmater. “Whether you’re able to pack bags, donate funds, or spread the word, every contribution matters.”
Stuff the Bus serves hundreds of students each year at no cost to families, helping to remove barriers caused by financial hardship and promoting educational equity. The annual Stuff the Bus program is coordinated by the McIntosh Memorial Library of Viroqua.
