Wisconsin Guard Juneteenth observance planned

Milwaukee, Wis. – James Meredith, a civil rights activist, Air Force veteran and the first African American student admitted to the University of Mississippi in 1962 when the school was still racially segregated will be a keynote speaker June 20 from 10 a.m.- 12 noon at the 128th Air Refueling Wing’s Sijan Hall in Milwaukee.

Dr. Judy Alsobrooks Meredith will join James Meredith as keynote speaker for the event, titled “Who is James Meredith?” Together they will lead a guided discussion with a diverse group of leaders and service members, representing all service components, to explore shared experiences.

This Juneteenth observation is presented by the Wisconsin National Guard’s offices of Equal Opportunity and Diversity & Inclusion.
