Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office employee charged with tax evasion and theft.

DECORAH, Iowa – According to a complaint filed in Winneshiek County Court, a Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office employee is accused of tax evasion and theft.

The compliant describes an investigation that showed Makenz Allen Kriener of Fort Atkinson used the sheriff’s office’s tax-exempt account to buy items from Norby’s Farm Fleet that were later determined to be for personal use. Kriener admitted to investigators that he purchased the items and was storing them at his residence. Investigators say he committed theft by purposely avoiding sales tax for a personal purchase, the value of which does not exceed $300.

Kriener faces charges of 5th degree theft and sales tax violation-evasion of sales tax. He is scheduled to appear in Winneshiek County Court on January 13.
