UPDATE: Viroqua man appears in Vernon County Court for bond hearing in pedestrian hit and run case

UPDATE: Monday, Feb.5 – 3:30 p.m.

Mitchell Mckittrick appeared in Vernon County Circuit Court on Monday afternoon and bond has been set in this case at $10,000 cash.

There were several conditions set as part of Mckittrick’s release as well.

  • Not to possess or consumer alcohol
  • Follow a curfew of 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Comply with random alcohol testing by law enforcement upon reasonable suspicion of recent alcohol use or possession.
  • No entry to bars or taverns or any establishment of which the primary purpose is the sale of alcohol.
  • No contact with Helseth and one other individual related to the case

UPDATE: Sunday evening, Feb. 4

WESTBY, Wis. – Westby Police are reporting that Mitchell L. Mckittrick of Viroqua has been arrested in connection with a pedestrian hit and run incident that took place on Bekkedal Ave. in the city of Westby early Sunday morning. According to police Emily R. Helseth, 36, of White Bear Lake, Minn. was walking on Bekkedal Avenue in the early morning hours when she was struck by a UTV driven by Mckittrick.

Helseth was taken by ambulance to Vernon Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. She is currently in serious but stable condition.

Westby Police state that Mckittrick is currently in the Vernon County Jail on tentative charges of hit and run causing great bodily harm. They also say that more charges are are possible.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was named as an additional agency that assisted with their investigation.

WESTBY, Wis. – Very little information has been released so far but Westby Police report that in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 4, officers were dispatched to 300 block of Bekkedal Avenue in the city of Westby for a hit and run. A pedestrian was struck while walking home sometime in the early morning hours. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification. The report goes on to say the investigation is ongoing and active by the Westby Police Department, Vernon County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
