Westby-Christiana Fire Department responded to house fire in Westby on Monday

According to a press release on the Westby-Christiana Fire Department Facebook page, firefigthers from their department extinguished a house fire in the city of Westby, on Monday.

The statements says firefighters were dispatched to the structure fire at 302 W. State St. at 10:57 p.m. While en route to the fire, a Westby Police officer on the scene confirmed visible flames, with fire appearing to originate in the kitchen area at the rear of the home. The fire department was also advised that all of the occupants were out of the residence.

The fire department arrived on scene at 11:03 p.m., and fire crews quickly knocked down the fire that was in the kitchen. Crews also found the fire had spread to the second floor.

Firefighters remained on the scene until about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 1. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Viroqua Fire Department, Coon Creek Fire Department, Westby Police, Westby EMS, Tri-State Ambulance, Midwest Gas and Westby Utilities assisted at the scene. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

The Westby-Christiana Fire Department reminds homeowners “to ensure that smoke alarms are functioning properly in their homes.”
