Wauzeka man arrested in Crawford County hit-and-run that seriously injured 68-year-old pedestrian and her dog

Township of Wauzeka – On Sunday, April 26, 2026, at approximately 8:41 a.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a hit‑and‑run involving a pedestrian and her dog on Rhein Hollow Road in the Township of Wauzeka.

Sheriff Dale McCullick reports that a 68‑year‑old woman, later identified as Katherine Oswald of Wauzeka, Wisconsin, was walking along the roadway with her dog when both were struck by a motor vehicle. The driver fled the scene following the crash.

Ms. Oswald and her dog sustained injuries as a result of the collision. Ms. Oswald was airlifted from the scene for medical treatment.

A subsequent investigation determined that Donovan Bruns, 31, of Wauzeka, Wisconsin, was the driver involved. Bruns was operating a green 1996 Chevrolet Blazer at the time of the incident. Investigators learned that after the crash, Bruns took extensive measures to hide and alter the vehicle in the State of Iowa.

Law enforcement authorities later located both Bruns and the vehicle. Bruns was taken into custody and transported to jail.

He has been arrested on the following charges:

  • First‑Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety
  • Reckless Driving Causing Great Bodily Harm
  • Duty Upon Striking a Person
  • Felony Obstruction

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
