Viroqua’s Center Avenue project moves to next phase

Sept. 21, 2025

VIROQUA, Wis. – The City of Viroqua’s Center Avenue infrastructure project is progressing, with construction crews completing work on one section and preparing to start on the next block scheduled for this year.

The project has seen the installation of new water mains, sewer mains, and services on Center Avenue between Parkinson and Decker streets. A final connection to the new water system was scheduled for Monday, resulting in a temporary water shutoff for notified properties. Following this connection, crews will work on installing the storm sewer and road base. While the final asphalt paving and concrete work for this section are anticipated for mid-October, the gravel surface will remain open to both pedestrians and vehicle traffic until then.

The scope of the Center Ave project that will be completed something next year

Originally, the project included work on Jefferson Street, but that has been postponed due to issues with getting an electrical contractor on site for the street lighting.

The next phase of the project will focus on Center Avenue between South Street and Terhune Street. The contractor, Badger, plans to begin removing asphalt on this block late next week, with full excavation scheduled to start on Monday, September 29. City officials note that this timeline is subject to change depending on the weather. An additional block is planned for reconstruction in 2025.
