VIROQUA, Wis. – Thanks in part to funding from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., the McIntosh Memorial Library of Viroqua is pleased to announce a new opportunity for residents and visitors to explore the city through the Viroqua Mural Walk.
The Viroqua Mural Walk is a self-guided tour highlighting nine outdoor murals in the city of Viroqua, eight of which are located in the historic downtown business district. Each mural will feature a sign containing a QR code, phone number or website address that participants can use to access a recording of the artist sharing the story behind the creation of the mural at that location.

“The Viroqua Mural Walk will begin Friday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. with a kickoff celebration in the library courtyard,” Library Director Trina Erickson said. “The event will feature live music, refreshments and comments from a handful of invited guests. We’re looking forward to sharing the new library mural with the community, along with our renovated courtyard space.”
In the event of inclement weather, the celebration will be held inside the library.
The Viroqua Mural Walk was created by library staff as a year-round catalyst for economic development in the city of Viroqua. The downtown murals are all within a short walking distance of one another, making it easy for residents and visitors to explore the artwork while also patronizing local businesses.
The city of Viroqua and McIntosh Memorial Library were awarded a Vibrant Spaces Grant to support the creation of the Viroqua Mural Walk. The Vibrant Spaces Grant, a component of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.’s Community Development Investment Grant Program, is designed to help communities create vibrant and engaging spaces that make it easier to recruit and retain residents, sustain a robust workforce and enhance quality of life.
Through the grant, new and enhanced public gathering places will foster community connections and provide accessible locations for programming and amenities desired by local residents, while also increasing foot traffic for area businesses.
