Financial fraud is the fastest-growing form of elder abuse in the United States. Scammers often prey on vulnerable seniors, illegally or improperly exploiting their money or property. In fact, in 2017 alone, reports of suspicious financial activity involving older Americans exceeded $1.7 billion, according to the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. These cases often go unreported due to fear, confusion, or embarrassment, as scam artists frequently present themselves as trustworthy helpers.
But there is good news: help is available through the AARP Fraud Watch Network, which offers critical fraud prevention resources to the public.
