VIROQUA, Wis. – The Viroqua Fire Department reports that they were called to a structure fire in the town of Jefferson, on Friday, Nov. 3 just before midnight at E5773 State Highway 56.
Fire Chief Chad Buros says when firefighters arrived at the scene, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the second story of the structure. There was heavy fire damage to the second floor, and smoke and fire damage to the first floor. The fire was brought under control quickly and extinguished. The department cleared from that location by about 3:37 a.m.
Buros says there was no one home at the time of the fire and the fire was called in by a passerby. The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Viroqua Fire Department received assistance with that fire from the Westby Fire Department and the Viola Fire Department. Also on scene were Tri-State Ambulance, Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, Viroqua Police Department and Xcel Energy assisted at the scene.
