The Viola Sportsman’s Club has announced it will be offering a Whitetail Learn to Hunt Program this fall. The Learn to Hunt Program is designed to introduce first time novice hunters to the sport of whitetail hunting. Each participant will be paired up with an experienced volunteer mentor who will help teach a required 4-hour educational session, hands-on firearm range training, and lead the participant and parent or guardian on an actual whitetail hunt.
Participants will gain knowledge in:
- Whitetail hunting skills and strategies
- Whitetail biology and habitat
- Firearm handling and safety
- Whitetail field dressing and processing
Program Requirements
- Program is free of charge for all participants.
- All participant must be at least 10 years of age.
- All participant must create a Wisconsin DNR customer number prior to the first activity date.
- All necessary gear can be provided for each participant.
- Participants are NOT required to complete a Hunters Education Class prior to the LTH program.
Dates
- 3 Hour Gun Handling & Range Session September 28, 2024 – 9am – 12pm
Viola Sportsman’s Club - 4 Hour Educational Session (Classroom and Range) October 13, 2024 – 10am – 2pm
Viola Sportsman’s Club - Whitetail Hunt October 19 and 20, 2024
Each participant will be equipped with:
- Blaze clothing items such as ball cap, stocking hat, vests and/or jacket and gloves/mitts.
- Shooting sticks
- Binoculars
- Field dressing supplies, including a hunting knife
- Hand and body warmers
- Smaller caliber center fire rifle
Deer harvested by participants will be processed at a local processor at no cost to the participant.
