Vernon Health Foundation adds drug take-back kiosks to their pharmacies

April 16, 2026

VIROQUA, Wis. — The Vernon Health Foundation is making it easier for community members to safely dispose of unused or expired medications with new drug takeback kiosks installed at their local pharmacies.

The secure kiosks are available at Vernon Health pharmacies in La Farge, Viroqua and Soldiers Grove during regular business hours. This free, year-round service offers a convenient and responsible way to clean out medicine cabinets while helping prevent misuse and protect the environment.

“The drug takeback program gives people a simple, safe way to get unused medications out of their homes,” said Melissa Stiles, Director Pharmacy Services, Vernon Health. “Proper disposal helps reduce the risk of accidental poisonings, prevents misuse and keeps medications out of our waterways, which benefits the entire community.”

Wisconsin continues to lead the nation in medication collection efforts. According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, the state ranked No. 1 nationwide during the Spring 2025 Drug Take Back, collecting 56,818 lbs. of unwanted prescription medications.

Since the Drug Enforcement Administration launched Drug Take Back in 2010, Wisconsin has collected a total of 1,369,472 lbs. of unwanted medications.

Residents are encouraged to bring unused medications to any participating pharmacy location and take advantage of the service. For more information, visit one of the local Vernon Health pharmacies or contact the Vernon Health Foundation.
