Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025

9/14 Deputies responded to a residence on South 5th Street in the Village of Readstown for a civil property line dispute.

9/14 A one vehicle crash occurred on US Highway 14 near Moore Road in the Town of Kickapoo. The female driver was evaluated by EMS and sustained no physical injuries but appeared to be impaired. On search of the vehicle, drugs and paraphernalia were found. The female was arrested for Operating While Under the Influence, Possession of Narcotic Drug, and Inattentive Driving and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

9/15 A deputy investigated stolen credit cards in the Town of Sterling. The cards were fraudulently used in an outside jurisdiction. The investigation is ongoing.

9/17 Deputies arrived at a residence on Upper Maple Dale Road in the Town of Viroqua to act on a felony warrant for probation violation and possession of amphetamine. A female was taken into custody and was further charged with Possess Drug Paraphernalia.

9/17 A vehicle pulling into a business on US Highway 14 in the Village of Readstown misjudged the turn and ended up in the ditch instead. The driver reported that they were unable to see well due to a vehicle driving behind them with bright headlights activated. The vehicle received severe rear end damage. No injuries were reported.

9/17 Deputies responded to a residence on North 4th Street in the Village of Readstown for a domestic disturbance.

9/18 A car versus deer crash occurred within the 6300 block of US Highway 14 in the Town of Coon. Christopher Carey, Westby, was the sole occupant and reported no injuries. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage and the injured deer was dispatched by the deputy.

9/18 Dispatch received an automated iPhone crash detection notification on Sidie Hollow Road in the Town of Jefferson. Contact was made with phone owner who stated the phone fell off the back of a truck and was later recovered.

9/18 A sheriff’s deputy and an officer with Westby Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Sunflower Street in the City of Westby. A male was taken into custody for Domestic Related Disorderly Conduct and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

9/20 Multiple calls were received regarding the reckless driving of a pickup truck through Hillsboro and La Farge. Sheriff’s deputies and Hillsboro Police officers cited the driver for Reckless Driving-Endanger Safety, Speeding on City Highway (16-19 mph) and Disorderly Conduct Motor Vehicle – Unnecessary Smoke.

9/20 Sheriff’s deputies and Westby Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Jore Road in the Town of Coon. There was an arrest made for Disorderly Conduct.
