Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025

11/9 A deputy investigated possible fraudulent employment a citizen had acquired through an online source. The citizen reported they had suspicions they may be an unknowing party in a package laundering scam. Investigation is ongoing.

11/10 Dispatch received a call regarding concern for animal welfare at a residence on Little Ridge Road in the Town of Whitestown. A deputy responded and spoke with the owner regarding animal care for the coming winter. The Sheriff’s Office has three deputies with humane officer training through the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection which included the state veterinarian. This training was made possible through the Driftless Humane Society and a generous private donor.

11/11 A traffic stop was initiated on US Highway 14 near Patterson Road in the Town of Franklin. The driver of a semi caught the attention of a deputy and motioned to the juvenile driver following at a very dangerous distance behind them. The juvenile driver received a citation for tailgating.

11/11 Dispatch received a call from a resident near County Road SS and Chadwick Hollow Road in the Town of Liberty who reported seeing a male shining deer and subsequently hearing gun shots. The town has a No Shining ordinance. Deputies were unable to locate anyone near the reported location.

11/12 DeWalt cordless tools and batteries were reportedly stolen from a residence on US Highway 14 in the Town of Franklin. Nearby pawnshops were notified. The investigation continues.

11/12 A sheriff’s deputy, as well as Readstown Fire and EMS, were dispatched to US Highway 14 near County Road X in the Town of Kickapoo for report of a truck and trailer with fire under its hood. The trailer and its cargo were able to be disconnected from the truck which quickly became fully engulfed. No injuries were reported.

11/13 Landowners of a quarry on West Norwegian Valley Road reported multiple instances of trespassing there recently. Deputies were able to finally make contact with a male and

female at the location who said they were allowed to be there recovering scrap. They were notified they were not allowed on the property and asked to leave.

11/14 A deputy assisted a motorist parked on West Main Street in the Village of La Farge who inadvertently locked their truck with their dog still inside.

11/15 A sheriff’s deputy, Coon Valley Fire and EMS, as well as Tri-State Ambulance responded to a single motorcycle crash near the 1500 block of State Highway 162 in the Town of Hamburg. A male reported losing control in a curve and wiping out. The motorcycle was towed from the scene. Minor injuries were reported.

11/15 A deputy responded to a residence on Division Street in Ontario to assist with a protection order and child custody exchange.
