Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday, May 16, 2026

5/10     Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch received a traffic complaint of a vehicle weaving and unable to maintain speed while southbound on State Highway 27. A sheriff’s deputy and Westby Police located the vehicle, initiated a traffic stop and determined the driver showed signs of impairment. The driver was transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center for Operating While Under the Influence.

5/10     Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Newton Road in the Town of Harmony for a domestic disturbance. A male and female were both taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

5/10     A traffic stop was initiated on State Highway 56 in the Town of Harmony. A driver was cited for traveling 87 mph in a 55 mph zone.

5/10     A citizen reported a possible impaired driver on US Highway 14 in the Town of Coon. The vehicle was located in Westby but the driver initially failed to stop, prompting a brief pursuit. Once stopped, the driver displayed signs of impairment. A probation hold was placed, and the driver was transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center for Operating While Under the Influence – 2nd offense, Operating After Revocation (OWI/PAC), Felony Bail Jumping, and Resisting/Failing to Stop/Fleeing. Viroqua and Westby Police assisted in the incident.

5/13     Sheriff’s deputies and Westby Police responded to a fight between two male patrons at a business on Central Avenue in Coon Valley. One male left the scene driving erratically and was later stopped in Westby. He was booked into the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center for Operating While Under the Influence-4th offense, Simple Assault, and Reckless Driving-Endanger Safety, and was trespassed from the business.

5/14     A sheriff’s deputy and Hillsboro Police responded to a business on Water Avenue in the City of Hillsboro after a patron made threats.  The patron was trespassed from the business and left the city.

5/15     Sheriff’s deputies and Viroqua officers arrived at a residence on Beyer Street in the City of Viroqua to execute a Department of Corrections warrant. The female attempted to leave the scene but was quickly found and taken into custody on the probation hold and was also charged with Resisting or Obstructing an Officer and was taken to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

5/16     While a deputy was conducting a traffic stop on Cut-A-Cross Road in the Town of Coon, the driver admitted to active warrants in other counties. Once warrants were confirmed, the driver was transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and held on a Walworth County misdemeanor warrant for Failure to Appear as well as Possession of THC, and was later transferred to Sauk County for another warrant.
