Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday May 11, 2024

SHERIFF ROY TORGERSON REPORTS THE FOLLOWING ONGOING ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR AND NARRATIVE EXCERPTS FROM THE WEEK ENDING May 11, 2024.

05/05 Kristin Nguyen, North Branch, Minnesota, was driving south on State Highway 162, town of Coon, when her rear passenger tire blew out, causing the vehicle to collide with the guardrail.  Nguyen did not report any injuries.  The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

05/05 A Westby Police Department officer came across an unoccupied crashed vehicle near the intersection of Coon Prairie Avenue and East Coon Prairie Avenue in the town of Viroqua.  The officer went to the residence of the registered owner and located the driver of the vehicle.  The driver, Jolene Balto, Cashton, reported seeing a deer in the roadway and swerving to avoid it.  The vehicle struck the ditch, and all airbags deployed.  Balto did not report any injuries.  The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.   

05/06 Richard Williams, La Farge, was driving westbound on County Road P, town of Clinton, and struck a deer.  No injuries were reported.  The vehicle received functional damage and was not towed.

05/06 A citizen reported they were run off the road on State Highway 56 in the town of Jefferson by a truck and trailer passing a tractor in a no-passing zone.  A deputy spoke with the driver of the truck and trailer and warned him about passing tractors in no-passing zones.

05/06 A domestic incident occurred on West Main Street in the village of Readstown.  Two deputies responded and made contact with the male and female.  The male and female were separated for the night.  Charges will be referred to the Vernon County District Attorney’s Office.

05/07 A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on State Highway 80 in the town of Hillsboro.  The driver received a citation for traveling 76 mph in a 55-mph zone.

05/07 The Zzip Stop in the village of Genoa reported a gas drive-off.  A deputy responded and identified the responsible party.  They were contacted and said they would return to the gas station to pay their bill.  

05/08 The sheriff’s office responded to a domestic incident on Offerdahl Road in the town of Franklin.  Two deputies responded.  The male and female were separated.

05/08 A resident reported a male was ransacking the house and hallucinating.  A deputy responded to the residence.  The chief of the La Farge Police Department responded to assist.  It was determined the male was possibly suffering from the effects of incorrect medications.  The male was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

05/08 A deputy arrested a female for violating her bond condition of not to possess or consume alcohol.  She was transported to the Vernon County Detention Center and released on a $1,000 signature bond.  

05/09 A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on US Highway 14 in the town of Hamburg.  The driver was issued a citation for driving 86 mph in a 55-mph zone.
