Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday, July 25, 2026

7/19 A toddler in a diaper was found walking alone in the Village of Stoddard. Concerned citizens cared for the child until deputies arrived. The toddler was recognized; an older sibling was babysitting and the toddler had snuck out a side door while lunch was being prepared. Contact was made with the parent and the toddler was returned home unharmed.

7/19 A motorist reported their truck being broken into at a boat landing in the Town of Bergen. Nothing appeared to have been taken, but there was damage to a back door and the glove box was broken off. Investigation is ongoing.

7/21 A welfare check was requested and conducted in the Town of Wheatland. A sheriff’s deputy found the person to be checked on deceased.

7/22 Dispatch received a complaint about a driver repeatedly weaving across the centerline heading southbound on State Highway 35 in the Town of Bergen. A deputy located the truck described and initiated a traffic stop. The operator was arrested for Operating Under the Influence – 3rd offense.

7/23 Deputies checked the Coon Valley area for a driver who was possibly impaired, but were unable to locate the vehicle. The caller was unable to provide a license plate number.

7/25 A car versus deer crash occurred on South Creek Road in the Town of Genoa. The driver reported no injuries, but the deer they struck had fractured back legs. A deputy responded to the scene and dispatched the animal.
