Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026

1/25 A deputy responded to a residence on Pine Avenue in the City of Hillsboro after the owner of a vehicle reported finding their front and rear passenger side windows had been broken sometime overnight by what appeared to be bb’s. Investigation is ongoing.

1/25 A sheriff’s deputy and a Viola Police officer responded to a residence on South Wagoner Avenue in the Village of Viola for a reported domestic incident.

1/27 Sheriff’s 911 dispatch received multiple calls of a semi tailgating and driving erratically, eastbound from Coon Valley on US Highway 14. A sheriff’s deputy and Westby police officer made contact with the driver who attributed the supposed erratic driving to traveling with an empty trailer and strong winds.

1/28 A deputy from a neighboring county reported his squad car being shot with a bb gun while traveling through the City of Hillsboro. Investigation is ongoing.

1/28 A deputy was dispatched to a residence on Fox Ridge Road in the Town of Greenwood after a citizen called to report possible trespassing at a neighboring property. No entry was made to the home, but evidence that a flammable object was thrown at the door was found. The investigation is active and ongoing.

1/29 Sheriff’s 911 dispatch received a report that nearly 30 head of cattle were found wandering along Burr Salem Road in the Town of Forest. Owners were located and arrangements were made to get the animals back to the property.

1/30 A deputy was dispatched to a residence on Birch Street in the Village of Stoddard to investigate a possible burglary. The homeowner returned to find a back door left open, lights on, and various jewelry, cash, and medications missing. Investigation is ongoing.
