SHERIFF ROY TORGERSON REPORTS THE FOLLOWING ONGOING ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR AND NARRATIVE EXCERPTS FROM THE WEEK ENDING JANUARY 25, 2025.

1/19 Deputies assisted a driver near Linton Street and East Broadway Street in the City of Viroqua who had locked their keys inside their vehicle.

1/20 Deputies stopped near the 9000 block of County Road M in the Town of Kickapoo for what appeared to be a disabled vehicle. The rear driver’s side tire was flat, and the vehicle had some minor front-end damage. Deputies were unable to reach the owner.

1/20 A traffic stop was initiated near the 600 block of US Highway 61 in the Village of Readstown for a speeding vehicle. Radar showed the driver was driving 67mph in a 55mph zone. The driver had set his cruise control to 65 and admitted he knew the posted speed limit was 55mph. A speeding citation was issued.

1/21 While traveling northbound on State Highway 35 near Spring Coulee Road in the Town of Bergen a deputy passed a vehicle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. Radar showed the operator was driving 83mph in a 55mph zone. A speeding citation was issued.

1/22 Dispatch received a call from a driver whose vehicle had slid across the road and into a ditch due to icy conditions near the 7000 block of State Highway 56 in the Town of Viroqua. A deputy assisted the driver at the scene. The driver reported no injuries, and the vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

1/22 Deputies responded to a property on Grimm Road in the Town of Hillsboro for a burglar alarm. When deputies arrived, it was determined that a pest control worker at the home had inadvertently tripped the alarm.

1/24 A deputy assisted two drivers who had locked keys inside their vehicles. One was on South Rusk Avenue and the other on Duck Egg Lane in Viroqua.

1/24 Dispatch was notified of a car versus deer accident in the Town of Stark near State Highway 82 and Zahm Road. A deputy responded to the scene. No injuries were reported, and the vehicle was still operational and driven from the scene.

1/25 A deputy initiated a traffic stop near the 100 block of South Commercial Avenue in the Village of Viola. The driver was cited for Operating After Revocation and received a 10day fix-it for expired registration and no proof of insurance.
