Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025

12/21 A deputy was dispatched to a business on US Highway 61 to make contact with a male with a Department of Corrections warrant. The warrant was confirmed and the male was transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

12/21 Deputies responded to a residence on South Main St in the Village of Stoddard for a domestic disturbance. A female was asked to leave the residence.

12/21 Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch received an automated crash notification near Banker Park in the Village of Viola. The driver reported mechanical issues as the cause of the crash. No injuries were reported.

12/22 A motorist notified Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch that they’d struck a deer in the 4200 block of State Highway 56 in the Town of Harmony. Holly Eitland, La Crosse, reported no injuries to herself, but that the deer was injured and still alive on the side of the road. The deer was dispatched by the deputy.

12/24 A citizen notified the sheriff’s office that garbage and various animal carcasses were being dumped on Brinkman Ridge Road near County Road K in the Town of Hamburg. Investigation is ongoing.

12/24 A landowner reported that a motorist had gone off the road and into their field and the vehicle was stuck. Open intoxicants were seen in plain view. The motorist was taken into custody for suspected OWI and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

12/24 A deputy was dispatched to investigate a case of harassment and stalking behavior that a caller reported was occurring at their residence and work place. Investigation is ongoing.

12/25 The Vernon County Highway Department notified Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch that a car passed one of their plow trucks going downhill near County Road Z and Cemetery Road in the Town of Forest and that the car slid into the ditch. The plow driver stopped to check on them and reported no injuries.

12/26 A homeowner called to report that someone struck his and a neighbor’s mailbox, and that there should be damage to the vehicle as there were pieces of the vehicle still at the scene. The deputy took some of the parts found and was able to identify them as belonging to a 2011-2014 Chrysler 300. Investigation is ongoing.

12/26 A caller reported the theft of a round bale trailer from his property located on County Road D in the Town of Stark that occurred between November 21 and December 6, 2025. Investigation is ongoing.

12/27 A deputy came upon a male passed out on the sidewalk on West Commercial Street in the Village of Viola. No medical attention was required and the male was given a ride to his residence.

12/27 All airbags were deployed when a Subaru Cross Trek operated by Gary Pedretti, Westby, struck a deer on State Highway 162 in the Town of Hamburg. No injuries were reported and he was able to drive the vehicle back to his residence.
