Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025

12/14 Sheriff’s deputies and officers with Viroqua Police Department were called to a residence on South Natwick Road in the Town of Jefferson for a report of suspicious activity. A vehicle appeared to be stuck at the end of the caller’s driveway and had been there for some time. The driver was taken into custody and processed for Operating While Under the Influence and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

12/14 Sheriff’s dispatch took a call regarding a deer that had been struck and was possibly still alive in the middle of US Highway 14 in the Town of Hamburg. On arrival deputies met with the striking motorist, Claudia Pilger, La Crosse, whose SUV sustained front end damage. No injuries were reported.

12/15 A motorist called to report that earlier that morning while traveling northbound on State Highway 35 in the Town of Genoa she met a truck and trailer and a water tank fell from the trailer and she was unable to avoid striking the object.

12/16 While on patrol a deputy noticed an open gate at an electric substation on County Road V in the Town of Forest and stopped to investigate. No signs of forced entry were found. Appropriate parties were notified.

12/16 A property owner called to report possible trespassing on Randall Road in the Town of Kickapoo. On investigation, the deputy found that a technician was working on a cell tower located on the property.

12/17 A sheriff’s deputy and a Viroqua officer were dispatched to a business on N Main Street in the City of Viroqua for a commercial burglar alarm. On arrival someone appeared to be doing business at the drive-thru window. Contact was made; an employee had inadvertently set off the alarm.

12/18 A resident at a property on County Road N in the Town of Sterling called to report that a male covered with blood was banging on the side of their house. Deputies arrived and found the male’s vehicle totaled a short distance away. Wheatland First Responders and Tri-State Ambulance were dispatched but the male refused medical assistance. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the male was taken to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and processed for Operating While Under the Influence-3rd Offense.

12/19 A deputy discovered an abandoned vehicle near the 9200 block of State Highway 82 in the Town of Webster. It looked like the car had sustained some minor damage and was parked well out of the roadway. The deputy saw footprints leaving the scene which lead to the registered owner’s residence. Contact was made with the driver who reported no injuries and they would be getting the car towed.

12/20 A traffic stop was initiated near the 6600 block of US Highway 14 in the Town of Coon in which a driver was ticketed for speeding 80 mph in a 55 mph zone.
