12/7 A sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to Kahler Lane in the Town of Greenwood to assist a driver who mistakenly locked their keys and two dogs inside their vehicle.
12/7 Sheriff’s 911 dispatch received a call requesting medical assistance at a residence on Scott Hollow Road in the Town of Liberty. A deputy was dispatched to the residence to assist Viola EMS due to the doors being locked and a territorial dog on scene. The deputy was forced to use Oleoresin Capsicum spray, made from natural cayenne pepper, to help remove the dog so EMS could access the patient. The deputy received minor hand injuries during interaction with the dog. The dog was uninjured.
12/8 A hunter had asked for permission from a property owner on State Highway 33 in the Town of Forest to retrieve a deer he claimed shooting on public land that had run onto their land. On investigation, there was no blood trail found and it was determined that the deer was on private property when it was shot by the hunter who was on public land. The case was forwarded to the DNR to pursue a deer registration violation.
12/8 Sheriff’s 911 dispatch received a call that a truck had gone down an embankment, and had come to a rest upside-down near a creek. The caller went to check the driver and advised dispatch they claimed to have no injuries. The truck was pulled from the embankment and driven from the scene. Hillsboro Fire and EMS also assisted.
12/10 Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on Smythe Avenue in the Town of Sterling after caller advised a male known to the caller arrived with a truck and trailer and was loading up a 4 wheeler and snowblower belonging to the caller. The caller was snowed in and unable to confront the male. On arrival, deputies were notified the male had an active warrant for failure to appear. The male was taken into custody and transported to the Vernon County Detention Center.
12/10 A concerned citizen called to report finding a small, female toddler in pajamas with a sippy cup walking in the road near south Lincoln Street in the Village of Ontario. Before a deputy’s arrival, a female came and took the child from the caller. The deputy spoke with
the toddler’s mother who stated she had just let the dog out and was assisting another child when the toddler must have snuck out.
12/12 A concerned citizen notified sheriff’s 911 dispatch that they came across a male standing in the roadway on State Highway 131 between Ontario and the Kickapoo Reserve and asked that someone check on him. A deputy was unable to locate the male.
12/12 A car versus deer crash occurred in the 7700 block of County Road SS in the Town of Viroqua. McKenna Niemeier, Dodgeville struck the deer and which caused minimal damage to the vehicle, but the deer suffered two broken back legs and had to be dispatched by the deputy.
