Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026

7/26     A caller reported being woken by a truck that had gone into the ditch on Sveum Ridge Road in the Town of Coon. A deputy arrived and made contact with the driver who denied injuries and refused medical care, but showed signs of intoxication. He was arrested for Operating Under the Influence – 2nd Offense and Operating After Revocation 1st due to Operating While Intoxicated/Prohibited Alcohol Concentration.

7/26     Dispatch received an automated crash notification near County Road S in the Town of Webster. Deputies checked with neighbors and were unable to locate a crash scene.

7/26     Deputies responded to a residence on West Main Street in the Village of Readstown after receiving a report of battery. The suspect was later taken into custody in Crawford County by Crawford County Sheriff’s Deputies and transported to the Vernon County Detention Center where he was processed for Battery and Disorderly Conduct.

7/27     Deputies executed an arrest warrant at a residence on Call Road in the Town of Sterling. A 30 year old female was taken into custody for felony and misdemeanor warrants as well as a probation hold.

7/28     Detectives were notified of a theft by contractor totaling close to $125,000.00 for work that was not completed. The contractor was said to be out of Missouri. Investigation is ongoing.

7/28     A deputy responded to a call on State Highway 35 in the Town of Genoa for multiple mailboxes that were destroyed. Investigation is ongoing.

7/29     Deputies responded to a residence on County Road U in the Town of Kickapoo for a domestic disturbance. A male was threatening others in the home with a knife. The male was arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

7/30     An accident was reported on County Road C in the Town of Greenwood. A juvenile male reported falling asleep at the wheel and the car travelled into a wooded area and then came to a rest on its side. The driver’s glasses were broken by airbag deployment but no injuries were reported.

7/31     A passerby called to report a fire they could see from State Highway 27 in the Town of Franklin. A deputy searched the area and discovered a controlled burn at a residence on South Brookeville Road. The property owner was notified to call dispatch first before burning.

7/31     A deputy responded to Lyster Road in the Village of Readstown for a noise and trespassing complaint. Both parties were contacted and then came to a peaceful resolution on their own.

8/1        Sheriff’s deputies were called to assist Coon Valley Police Department during a traffic stop at a business on Central Avenue in the Village of Coon Valley. During the stop an unknown male passenger attempted to walk away but was later found near the La Crosse county line. The male had active warrants through La Crosse, Dunn, and Trempealeau Counties. La Crosse County deputies took custody of the male.

8/1        A deputy arrested a male with an active Department of Corrections warrant after his vehicle was seen on South Bird Street in the Village of La Farge.  He was then transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

8/1        A teen was reported missing from a family group while at Sidie Hollow Park. Viroqua Police and Fire Department were dispatched to assist with the search. The teen was found a short while later unharmed and returned to his family.
