Vernon County Sheriff’s Report for the week ending Saturday, April 5, 2025

April 7, 2025

3/30 The driver of a car called into dispatch after attempting to miss a deer and striking a mailbox and road sign on State Highway 162 in the Town of Hamburg. No injuries were reported. The car was still operational, and the owner was able to return home.

3/30 Vernon County Sheriff’s deputies along with the Westby Police Department responded to a residence on Grove Street in the City of Westby for a domestic incident involving an intoxicated male party.

3/30 A deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle with front end damage and no front license plate that continued driving until reaching a residence on East Mohawk Lane in the Town of Bergen. Once stopped, the deputy determined the driver had an active warrant from La Crosse County. The driver was taken into custody and turned over to La Crosse County deputies.

3/31 A citizen called regarding a lock that had been cut from a work trailer on Aspen Ridge Road in the Town of Wheatland. Various Milwaukee power tools, estimated to cost $5,000, were missing from the trailer. The case is open and pending further investigation.

4/1 A deputy was dispatched to US Highway 14 in the Town of Franklin for a car that had gone into the ditch. The driver reported falling asleep at the wheel. The driver was arrested for bail jumping, Operating After Revocation, and was transported to the Vernon County Detention Center.

4/2 A deputy initiated a traffic stop on State Highway 131 in the Town of Whitestown for a pickup pulling a flatbed trailer that was weaving within their lane. The driver was unfamiliar with the area, missed their turn, and had been attempting to find directions on their phone. The passenger of the truck had an active child support warrant from Wood County and a felony probation warrant through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The passenger was taken into custody and transported to the Vernon County Detention Center.

4/4 A deputy initiated a traffic stop on US Highway 14 in the Town of Hamburg for a van that radar confirmed was travelling at 90MPH in a 55MPH zone. The driver was cited for traveling 35MPH over the posted speed limit.
