SHERIFF ROY TORGERSON REPORTS THE FOLLOWING ONGOING ACTIVITIES WITH NARRATIVE EXCERPTS FROM THE WEEK ENDING May 4, 2024.
04/29 Ian Mickelson, Lancaster, was driving northbound on State Highway 35, town of Genoa, when he struck a deer. Mickelson did not report any injuries. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.
04/30 An unoccupied horse and buggy took off from a residence near Washington Street in the city of Westby. A deputy responded and assisted in locating and recovering the horse and buggy.
04/30 A citizen reported young adults were riding their lawn mowers on State Highway 35 in the town of Genoa. A deputy located the offenders and warned them about the rules of the road and village/township ordinances.
04/30 A deputy conducted a traffic stop on an ATV on Main Street in the village of De Soto. A juvenile was operating a single-seat ATV with a juvenile passenger. Only one occupant was wearing a helmet. The operator was educated about ATV/UTV rules and was given a warning.
05/01 Jessica Slack, Soldiers Grove, struck a deer while driving northbound on State Highway 27 in the town of Franklin. No injuries were reported. The vehicle received functional damage and was not towed.
05/03 Elizabeth Kearns, Gays Mills, was traveling northbound on State Highway 27 in the town of Christiana. Linda Jacobson, De Soto, was stopped on County Road P at the intersection with State Highway 27. Jacobson did not see Kearns approaching and pulled out from the stop sign. Kearns swerved in an attempt to avoid the crash but struck Jacobson’s vehicle. No injuries were reported. Kearns’ vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Jacobson’s vehicle received functional damage and was not towed.
05/03 Tana Olson, Cashton, was traveling northbound on County Road S in the town of Webster. Olson reported the sun was in her eyes causing her to leave the roadway and strike a mailbox and guardrail. Olson did not report any injuries. Her vehicle received functional damage. The property owners of the mailbox and guardrail were notified.
05/04 Hansen’s IGA in the city of Westby reported a customer did not pay for their gas. The customer was located by their license plate number. He was contacted and said he would take care of paying his bill.
