Vernon County Sheriff’s Office Report for the week ending Saturday, March 1, 2025

3/2        A deputy was called to a residence on West Turner Avenue in the Village of Viola for a domestic disturbance.

3/3        Deputies stopped to investigate an open door (after business hours) at a business on US Highway 14, near Offerdahl Road, south of Viroqua.  The building was secured.

3/3        A deputy initiated a traffic stop in the 1100 block of US Highway 35 in the Town of Bergen. A driver was cited for speeding 87MPH in a 55MPH zone.

3/3        Dispatch was notified of a car versus deer collision on Cut-A-Cross Road in the Town of Coon. The car suffered disabling damage and was later towed from the scene. The deer was fatally wounded.

3/4        A deputy was dispatched to De Soto High School for a physical altercation between two students.

3/4        Deputies were dispatched for a panic alarm at a banking institution on Central Avenue, in Coon Valley. Deputies arrived and found an unattended vehicle with significant left side damage in the lot and a male party inside the bank who appeared to be intoxicated. The vehicle had been involved in an earlier hit and run incident in La Crosse County. The driver was arrested for Operating While Under the Influence and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

 3/6       A deputy was dispatched to Wolf Valley Road in the Town of Whitestown for a car versus deer collision. The vehicle was still operable, and no injuries were reported by the driver.

 3/7       Deputies initiated a traffic stop near the 600 block of West South Street in the Village of Ontario for a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver had active warrants out of Richland and Vernon Counties, and a Department of Corrections hold was placed. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

3/7        A deputy initiated a traffic stop near State Highway 35 and Sylvan Glen Road in the Town of Bergen. A driver was cited for speeding 76mph in a 55mph zone.

3/7        Vernon and Richland County deputies were dispatched to West Commercial Street in the Village of Viola for a suspicious male party who was walking out into traffic with open intoxicants. The male had an active warrant, resisted arrest and was taken to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office Jail.  There was an outstanding Vernon County warrant for another male at the scene.  He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

3/8        Deputies were sent to a residence on East South Street in the Village of Readstown for a 911 hang up call. On arrival, deputies made contact with a male with an active warrant through Vernon County for failure to appear. The male was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
