Vernon County Sheriff’s Office Report for the week ending Saturday, July 18, 2026

7/12     A Scottish Highland bull escaped its enclosure on Pine Avenue in the Town of Union. The owners were contacted and the animal was brought home.

7/12     A male called to report sextortion after speaking with a female through Facebook Dating who then threatened to share provocative photos of him with family and friends unless he paid large sums of money. The male was advised to block the female and all methods of contact and reported the issue to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).

7/13     A deputy arrived at a residence on Upper Maple Dale Road to serve an active Department of Corrections arrest warrant. A female was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

7/13     A truck and trailer jackknifed and ended up in a ditch along US Highway 14 and Saugstad Road in the Town of Christiana. The driver reported no injuries.

7/13     A camper at Sidie Hollow Park called to report being propositioned by an unknown male. Deputies were unable to locate a male matching the description given.

7/14     K9 Dax and Deputy Bellacero gave a demonstration for residents at Vernon Acres Assisted Living.

 7/14    A male was reportedly harassing people at a residence on East Center Street in the Village of Readstown but had left prior to a deputy’s arrival. A short while later, the same male walked into another residence, refusing to leave, and had to be forced out by the resident. The male was later seen darting into traffic. A deputy made contact, assisted the male and transported him back home.

7/15     Deputies and Viroqua Police Officers assisted with the search for a missing 13 year old girl from a residence on US Highway 14 in the Town of Viroqua. After a search, a deputy made contact with the girl at a business in Westby where she was found unharmed.

7/15     A caller reported a Ram 1500 had struck the corner of a business at the intersection of South Commercial Street and Drake Avenue in the Village of Viola and it appeared that any occupants had already fled the scene. It was unknown if there were any injuries. Investigation is ongoing.

7/16     A resident called to report a break in at their residence on Salsbery Circle in the City of Hillsboro. Signs of forced entry to a screen door were noted. Investigation is ongoing.

7/16     A resident on South 4th Street in the Village of Readstown called to report a male causing a disturbance in their backyard. Deputies made contact with the male who was found to be in violation of his bond conditions. He was arrested for Felony Bail Jumping and Disorderly Conduct.

7/16     Deputies assisted Richland County Sheriff’s Office in the search for a missing woman from the Town of Forest. She was later found and transported for evaluation.

7/17     A woman was reported missing from her residence on North Church Street in the Village of Ontario. After a two hour search, the woman was found and returned to her residence unharmed. Kickapoo Valley Reserve Officers also assisted in the search.
