2/16 Deputies responded to a residence on Gross Valley Lane in the Town of Greenwood for the reported theft of a Ryobi generator, Stihl weedwhacker, and a Winchester 308 rifle. Investigation is ongoing.
2/18 Sheriff’s 911 dispatch was notified that residents on State Highway 82 in the Town of Union were dumping garbage into the ditch. A deputy spoke with the property owners who stated they would work on getting it cleaned up.
2/18 Residents of a home on Tri-State Road in the Town of Webster called to report a neighbor’s dog was regularly running loose and that today it had killed some of their chickens. The owner of the dog was cited for Dogs Not to Run at Large.
2/18 Kickapoo Kwk Stop in the Village of Readstown reported a gas drive off. They provided a plate and deputies made contact with the driver who stated they would take care of it immediately.
2/19 A traffic stop was initiated on State Highway 35 near Chipmunk Ridge Road in the Town of Bergen. The driver was cited for travelling 89 mph in a 55 mph zone.
2/19 STODDARD, Wis – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports on Thursday afternoon, February 19, 2026, just before 2:00 PM, the Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center began to receive 9-1-1 calls reporting that two people, on an All-Terrain Vehicle, went through the ice on the Mississippi River near the Stoddard Boat Landing.
A sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene and determined that both individuals, James D. Borski, age 64, and Scott J. Borski, age 62, both of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, made it to shore safely. Both were evaluated by members of the Stoddard-Bergen Fire Department and Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance. They were wet and cold, but neither were transported to the hospital.
Fire and rescue personnel who responded were prepared for a water rescue, but, fortunately, this was not needed. Also at the scene was a member of the Genoa-Harmony
Fire Department. A Wisconsin State Patrol trooper was in the vicinity and offered their assistance.
The ATV owner made their own arrangements to have the ATV removed from the water.
“Our community is truly blessed by the dedication of our first responders and today was no exception. These folks spend time away from their families to faithfully serve the community. I am so thankful that our rescuers train so diligently and come prepared for whatever emergency they face.”
The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
2/19 A concerned citizen called to report a fire left burning unattended in front of new construction along Aspen Drive in the Town of Wheatland.
2/20 Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on North Gold Street in the Village of La Farge. A male was arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Damage to Property as well as Misdemeanor Bail Jumping and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
2/21 The Sheriff’s Office received a traffic complaint regarding a vehicle driving west along State Highway 56 toward Viroqua. A sheriff’s deputy responded and a traffic stop was initiated together with Viroqua officers at a business within the city limits. During the stop the odor of illicit drugs was detected and a search was conducted. The driver was in possession of THC which was seized. The driver showed no other signs of impairment.
