Vernon County Sheriff’s Office Report for the week ending Saturday, April 25, 2026

4/19 A property owner on Babcock Street in the Village of Coon Valley called to report damage to their home. Someone had cut wiring to the garage and other lighting around the home. Investigation is ongoing. 

4/19 A gas station on West Kickapoo Street in the Village of Readstown called to report a gas drive off. The vehicle owner was contacted and payment was arranged. 

4/20 A victim reported that their purse and checks were stolen earlier in the year. Today they discovered an unauthorized withdrawal from their account after a check, believed to be forged, was cashed. Investigation is ongoing. 

4/21 Deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Franklin after a homeowner stated they felt threatened after being approached by a neighbor in regard to an ongoing property line dispute. The neighbor was cited for Disorderly Conduct.  

4/21 A property owner called to notify dispatch that a brush fire they had started in the Town of Union had gotten out of control and ignited a large pile of tires. The fire continued spreading, also reaching nearby round bales. Hillsboro Fire Department was dispatched for suppression. The controlled burn had not initially been called into Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch Center resulting in a burn violation. 

4/21 A homeowner called to report their purebred puppy was missing from their residence in the Town of Hamburg. The puppy was located at a neighbor’s home the next morning. 

4/22 A sheriff’s deputy and Viroqua Police officers responded to a business on North Main Street in the City of Viroqua after employees called to report a male outside the business wielding a sword.  

4/23 Dispatch received a report of a domestic disturbance and a vehicle stolen from a residence on South Wagoner Avenue in the Village of Viola. The vehicle and suspect were located in Crawford County and then transported back to the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where they were processed for Domestic Abuse Related Disorderly Conduct and Operating After Revocation.
