VIROQUA, Wis. – Vernon County economic development officials and local governments are asking residents to take a broadband survey being administered by the Public Service Commission. The survey helps determine broadband connect speeds throughout the state. That information will then be used to help allocate the $1 billion Wisconsin has secured thorough the federal infrastructure bill passed last year.
The Biden Administration says Wisconsin is getting a little over one billion dollars in the next few years to expand high-speed internet to the roughly 650,000 state residents without broadband service.
The money for Wisconsin is part of $42 billion that comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin supported, but Republican Sen. Ron Johnson voted against.
$1 billion in Federal Funds will be distributed for broadband in Wisconsin based on broadband needs. Vernon County officials are helping gather data from households and businesses on internet speeds. The PSC hopes to get all data by July 17. It only takes about five minutes and it can be found at https://maps.psc.wi.gov/apps/WISER/index.html
Earlier this week Governor Evres announced the release of 2023 Governor’s Task Force on Broadband Access annual report. You can find out story on that report here.
