July 18, 2025

VERNON COUNTY, Wis. — The Vernon County Community Development Department has officially closed the application window for the 2025 Elevate Vernon Grant — and the response was nothing short of remarkable. A total of 79 applications were submitted from communities across the county, requesting over $734,000 in funding to support more than $2.4 million in local business projects.

“This overwhelming response speaks volumes about the innovation, grit, and vision of Vernon County’s entrepreneurs,” said Larkin Breckel, Vernon County Economic Development & Marketing Coordinator. “We’re truly grateful to each and every business owner who took the time to apply and share their ideas. It’s clear that people are dreaming big and investing in the future of our communities.”

Applications came from a wide range of businesses — including farms, food businesses, retailers, manufacturers, contractors, childcare providers, and more — reflecting the strength and diversity of Vernon County’s local economy. With $150,000 in funding available, the grant process will be highly competitive.

“We know that not every strong project will receive funding — but we know the community will come together to celebrate the businesses that do, and support the businesses that don’t,” added Breckel. “Every successful project helps strengthen our local economy, and that’s a win for all of us.”

Applications are currently being screened before moving to a review panel, and final decisions are expected by mid-September.

While the program cannot fund every application, the Vernon County Community Development Department remains deeply committed to supporting all local businesses and entrepreneurs. Business owners of all sizes and stages are encouraged to reach out to the department for help navigating other funding opportunities, technical assistance, and resource connections tailored to their goals.

“We know how much heart and effort went into these applications,” added Breckel. “Whether or not funding is awarded, we’re here to help support our local businesses however we can.”
