Viroqua, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson would like to invite the public to attend
the Annual Vernon County Police Memorial Service, which will be held on
Tuesday May 14th, 2024, at 1:00pm, outdoors, in front of the Sheriff’s Office at
1320 Bad Axe Court, Viroqua.
This is an opportunity for law enforcement to remind the public of the sacrifices
made daily by officers in protecting the lives and property of our citizens.
Each year approximately 66,414, law enforcement officers are assaulted or injured in the
line of duty, and in 2023, 137 officers were killed in the line of duty, 4 being from
Wisconsin. So far in 2024, 55 officers have been killed in the line of duty.
Sheriff Roy Torgerson would like to remind everyone that throughout the nation,
National Police Week will be observed May 12th through May 18th, 2024. With
National Peace Officers Day observed on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, in
Washington D.C. The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony will be
held at the Capital, in Madison on May 10th, 2024.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Local Memorial Service at the Sheriff’s Office
on May 14th, 2024, at 1:00pm.
In the event of rain, the service will be moved inside the Sheriff’s Office.
