Vernon County hunter med-flighted following fall from tree stand, sheriff’s office investigating

VIROQUA, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports the Sheriff’s Office 9-1-1 Dispatch Center received a call Saturday evening, October 21, at approximately 7:30 p.m., reporting a man had fallen from a tree stand while hunting on private property.

The Sheriff’s Office, Viroqua Emergency Responders (Viroqua First Responders), Viroqua Fire Department, Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance, and later Gundersen Air immediately responded to the scene located off Olson Lane, on Nottingham Ridge, in rural Viroqua, WI, in the town of Jefferson.  The distance of the fall was estimated at eighteen feet.  The hunter, a 55-year-old male from Twin Lakes, Wis. was found by a hunting partner when the injured hunter failed to return to his vehicle after hunting. The injured hunter was flown to Gundersen Health System, in La Crosse, Wis. by Gundersen Air.

Sheriff Torgerson would like to remind hunters to always use a fall-restraint device every time you hunt above the ground, regardless of whether you hunt with a ladder stand, a tower stand, or a hang-on stand.  For more information, safety tips, and helpful videos, visit: TreestandSafety
